Join Duval Audubon Society to participate in the 2023 Jacksonville City Nature Challenge at Riverview Park!

City Nature Challenge is a friendly competition between cities around the world. It started in 2016 between San Francisco and Los Angeles to see who could get the community to observe more wildlife using iNaturalist. Since then, more and more cities have started to participate. Jacksonville joined in the challenge in 2022 and this year continues to expand its community science participation with this engaging challenge.

We're participating this year with a bird walk, so of course we will be paying particular attention to the birds, but with City Challenge, any nature observation qualifies!

To participate, simply download the iNaturalist app to your phone, and during our bird walk, snap photos of nature (birds are great, but you can also get pics of lizards, butterflies, flowers, trees, whatever catches your eye). Then upload them to iNaturalist, and they will count towards Jacksonville's City Nature Challenge!

Meet in the parking area closest to the river. Bring your cell phone with the iNaturalist app already downloaded, binoculars, water, and insect repellent.

COVID-19 NOTE: Masks are not mandatory per the new CDC guidelines, but for the safety of all participants and volunteers, social distancing is still recommended, especially if you are not vaccinated. Please do not attend if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or experienced any of the following symptoms within the last 14 days:
- A new fever
- A new cough that is not because of another illness
- A new shortness of breath that is not because of another illness
- A new sore throat that is not because of another illness
- Sore muscles not because of existing illness, or not from exercise or injury
- Diagnosis of an infection
- Exposure to someone known to be infected
- Someone you are closely associated with experiencing any of the above symptoms.
- You are currently experiencing unmanaged seasonal allergy symptoms (e.g., persistent cough, sneezing).
