This refuge is located on an abandoned World War II Army airfield. Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge has over 2800 acres of saltwater marsh, grassland, and deciduous woods. These habitats support an amazing array of birds: songbirds, birds of prey, wading birds, and waterfowl. We can expect to find wintering sparrows, ducks, and maybe a few warblers. There should also be a variety of waders. We will bird from the auto route with short hikes at stops like Woody Pond.

Meeting Place & Directions: 07:30am, McDonald’s at I-95 Georgia exit 67.
Take I-95 north to exit #67 in Georgia (US17). It is approximately a one and a half hour’s drive from Jacksonville, depending on where you live. Go east, right at the exit and the McDonald’s is immediately on the left with a Shell gas station. If you run late you and want to meet us at the refuge; continue east/south on US17 and you will see signs for the refuge and “The Smallest Church in America” on your left. The refuge road is just past the church.
Bring snacks/lunch and drinks; sun screen, bug spray, binoculars, spotting scopes, and photography gear.

Location Harris Neck NWR, 5000 Wildlife Dr NW, Townsend, GA.
