We will walk on the trails, looking for lingering yellow-billed cuckoos, summer tanagers, and hopefully the resident bald eagle. In addition, we hope to see the usual resident birds, such as titmice, chickadees, house finch, red-bellied and red-headed woodpeckers, and some early fall warblers. We will search for ducks and other water birds and search the skies for migrating hawks. Meet at Camp Chowenwaw in the main parking lot at the ranger building. Camp Chowenwaw is located on Highway 17, in Green Cove Springs.

Anyone who wishes to continue on after lunch will be treated to more Clay County jewels. We will decide on these additional locations as time and energy permits. Please arrive with a full tank of gas, lunch (there is a Subway, and a Winn-Dixie about a mile from Ronnie Van Zant Park if anyone wishes to buy a quick lunch!), bug spray, and your wanderlust!

Directions to Camp Chowenwaw: from I-295, exit on Park Ave./Roosevelt Blvd./Hgy. 17. Go south on Hgy 17 for approximately 10 miles. Immediately after crossing the Black Creek bridge, look for the park sign on the right; turn right onto Ball Rd. If coming FROM the south on Hgy. 17 (Green Cove Springs), pass Garber Auto mall, go through the light at County Rd. 218 and look for the camp sign on the left BEFORE you cross Black Creek bridge. Turn left onto Ball Rd.
