Speaker: Dr. Keith Ashley, Coordinator of Archaeological Research, UNF
One thousand years ago, Native Americans inhabited villages and lived off the rich natural resources of the St. Johns River. Research shows that the fisher-hunter-gatherers who lived in the Jacksonville area were actively involved in long distance trade of exotic copper and other items from far-flung areas of eastern North America. Come listen to a fascinating history of what our area was like then. Dr. Ashley will talk about excavations along the St Johns River at the Mill Cove Complex near Fort Caroline and what his research shows about what life was like in Northeast Florida in 1000 AD.
Dr. Keith Ashley is coordinator of archaeological research at the University of North Florida.
