The Modern Zoos' Role in Conservation
Monday, November 16, 2015, 06:30pm - 08:30pm

Speaker: Tony Vecchio, Executive Director, Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens

Since 1980 conservation has been the primary mission of all AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums. While that mandate has been embraced by zoos, the definition of conservation and the most effective role zoos can play is much less clear. This talk looks at the various efforts zoos have made to make a real difference for wildlife and wild places. The evolution of those efforts have led to today’s many initiatives focusing on conservation education and local citizen science projects.

There are many opportunities for collaboration with local NCOs, such as Duval Audubon, to increase the power and synergy of our conservation actions.
