Bird Walk & Book Signing at Howell Park

October 24 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am
Free

Co-leaders: Brook Byrnes & Sabrina Lehmann

Join us for a bird walk at Howell Park with Deborah Penrose, author of Birding Through Deaf Eyes, followed by a book signing at the picnic tables near the parking lot.

Howell Park, located between Seminole Road and East Coast Drive in Atlantic Beach, FL, is a passive park that has 2,500 ft of nature trails, freshwater streams and picnic areas. There are no restrooms at the park itself, but public bathrooms are available at Atlantic Beach City Hall complex, just across Seminole Road.

IMPORTANT: Googling Howell Park will take you to the parking lot for the Atlantic Beach City Hall rather that into the park itself. To get to the park from Seminole Road, turn onto Palm Avenue at 401 Seminole Road. Since Palm Avenue is one way, if there are no parking spaces inside the park, you will need to turn right onto Magnolia Street and return to Seminole Road to park at the Atlantic Beach City Hall complex.

We can expect to see American Redstarts, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-throated Warblers, Northern Parulas, Black and White Warblers, Ovenbirds, Gray Catbirds, Eastern Phoebes, and if we’re lucky, maybe a cool thrush.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and a hat, and don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and binoculars.
