Founded in 1939, Duval Audubon Society is one of 45 chapters of Audubon Florida and a member of the National Audubon Society. We currently have approximately 1,200 members in Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties and are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our chapter is dedicated to the enjoyment of birds and other wildlife. We have a primary focus on the preservation of a diversity of species and habitats, through education, conservation, environmental leadership and community involvement. We offer a variety of nature outings, programs and volunteer opportunities that are open for anyone to attend.

Browse through this web site, attend one of our field trips or monthly program meetings, or contact any of our board members if you would like more information about our activities.

If you would like to become a member of our organization, and we hope you will if you haven’t already, visit our Join page to find out how!

Lights Out Northeast Florida Awards

From September 15 to November 15, our team of dedicated volunteers was up before dawn, heading downtown to collect, rescue, and survey birds injured or killed by window strikes. We give a huge thank you for their commitment to science, their compassion, and their hard work. Because of them, our program has received wonderful recognition at both the state and local levels.

At the state level, LONF was honored to receive the Outstanding Conservation Project Award for Large Chapters in October from Audubon Florida! What an incredible honor. There are so many outstanding Audubon chapters across the state doing inspiring conservation work, and we’re humbled to be recognized among the best of the best.

At the local level, the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board honored LONF with this year’s Community/Civic Award for our Lights Out Northeast Florida Nights Proclamation and community science achievements. We’re proud to share this award with our City of Jacksonville partners.

New Events

These two new events this year will be repeated (and likely more than once) next year.

Mindful Birding at Hanna Park allowed participants to spend time observing and enjoying birds as they fly in to roost for the night.  No pressure to count or track all the birds there, just enjoyment.

Bird Trivia Night at the Southeast Regional Library tested participants’ knowledge of birds and local habitats.  This beginner friendly event allowed for some friendly competition and learning about the birds common in our area.
