Monthly Program: "Red-cockaded Woodpecker Conservation in Florida's State Forests"
Monday, May 15, 2023, 06:30pm - 08:00pm
Speaker: Jennifer Walls Klindt, Biologist at Goethe State Forest, Florida Forest Service

Red-cockaded Woodpeckers are listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and as a species of special concern by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Goethe State Forest contains one of the largest contiguous tracts of longleaf pine habitat in Florida and is noted for its Red-cockaded Woodpecker clusters.

Jennifer has been with the state for 6 years. Her focus is managing the population of Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, along with leading the prescribed burn program and implementing ground cover restoration projects on the forest.

Jennifer grew up in Florida and worked in Texas, Missouri, and China before making her way back to Florida. She loves being back in her home state, now seeing it from a different perspective, and restoring flatwoods habitat.
