Duval Audubon is again leading monthly walks for novice birders at Fort Caroline National Memorial. Of course, experienced birders are welcome too!
We will hike at a leisurely pace around Fort Caroline's Hammock Trail, which is a 1.2-mile loop trail through the forested area around the fort. The trail also includes access to the St. Johns River as well as the Fort Caroline and Timucaun Village exhibits. This forested trail is especially good for Northeast Florida's year-round woodland bird species such as Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, and Carolina Wren, to name just a few! This location is also great for spotting migrating warblers during spring and fall migration.
The trip leaders will gladly help you identify the birds around us, and we will have a limited number of loaner binoculars for you to borrow during the outing if you do not have your own.
Wear sturdy walking shoes or boots (for your safety, no sandals or flip-flops, please), and bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a hat if desired.
