SUMMARY:Duval Audubon Society / Florida Young Birders Club Outing at Guana Reserve ($3 entrance fee)
DESCRIPTION:Calling all young birders! Join us on Global Big Day as we explore Guana Reserve with the Florida Young Birders Club – NE Florida Chapter! \nJoin us for a birding outing at Guana Reserve on Saturday\, May 9th from 8-10am! We will be celebrating Global Big Day by finding a variety of bird species as we bird our way through Guana’s diverse landscape. FYBC is a membership organization geared towards young birders ages 9-17\, but you do not need to be a member to go birding with us for this outing. This walk will be led by Will Misner\, youth representative of the FYBC-Northeast Florida Chapter\, and David Doran\, Duval Audubon Society’s Director of Education and Youth Outreach. \nGuana Reserve features a variety of habitats including salt marshes\, a large freshwater-to-brackish water lagoon\, open ocean\, and coastal oak hammock forests. It is home to a multitude of warbler species\, including Prarie Warblers and Yellow-throated Warblers\, wading birds such as Roseate Spoonbills and Wood Storks\, and is one of the best places in Florida to find the elusive Saltmarsh Sparrow. \nLearn more about Guana here and check out Guana’s Ebird list. \nRegister at https://tinyurl.com/fybcguana to connect with other young birders in Northeast Florida! \nPlease plan to have at least one adult joining each young birder or group of young birders who are signing up together. You will be asked to list all young birder(s )and adult(s) in your registration; you may relist the adult’s email if a young birder does not have an email or prefers not to share it. \nWhat to Bring: Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes to bird along the trails. Bring your binoculars if you have them\, water\, insect repellent\, sunscreen\, and snacks. Restrooms are at the trailhead. There is a $3 Entrance Fee – Bring cash because sometimes the Credit Card machine does not work. \nWhere to Meet: Guana Reserve Trailhead Parking Lot \nAddress: 505 Guana River Rd.\, Ponte Vedra Beach\, FL 32082 \nNOTE: Continue past the payment box\, drive across the dam\, and meet at the trailhead parking lot. \nQuestions? Contact David at david.doran@duvalaudubon.org or Will at misnerwill@gmail.com.
