SUMMARY:This Outing Is Canceled Due to Bad Weather: Bird Walk for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:We are working to reschedule this bird walk; please check back for updates. \nJoin us every second Sunday at 9:15 am at Fort Caroline National Memorial. This is a beginner-friendly outing – from the bird curious to seasoned birders\, all are welcome! We will start the 1.5 mile Hammock Trail along the St Johns River\, looking for herons\, egrets\, and Bald Eagles. We will continue into the maritime forest to look for resident species\, like Pileated Woodpeckers\, Tufted Titmice\, and Northern Cardinals – and migratory species like Yellow-throated Warblers\, Great-Crested Flycatchers\, and Northern Parulas. Birders have reported 165 species at this eBird hotspot! \nMeet leader Kate Zeray in front of the Visitor Center to get signed in. Binoculars will be available to borrow for the outing. This trail has tree roots and moderate incline – more information can be found here: Hammock Trail. There are a few benches along the trail. Restrooms are available at the visitor center. \nLearn more about our all-volunteer led organization: Duval Audubon Society Website

SUMMARY:Duval Audubon Society | Florida Young Birders Club Reddie Point Preserve Birding Outing
DESCRIPTION:Calling all young birders! Join us for an exciting outing at Reddie Point! \nDuval Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding outing for the Florida Young Birders Club (FYBC) – Northeast Florida Chapter at Reddie Point Preserve on Sunday\, October 18th from 8-10am. FYBC is a membership organization geared towards young birders ages 9-17\, but you do not need to be a member to go birding with us for this outing. This walk will be led by youth leader Will Misner\, President of the FYBC-Northeast Florida Chapter\, and David Doran\, Duval Audubon Society’s Director of Education and Youth Outreach. \nYou can learn more about Florida Young Birders Club\, here: floridayoungbirders.org. \nReddie Point Preserve is situated along the St. Johns River\, featuring maritime forest\, salt marsh\, and river habitats. Its ecosystems provide productive birding in Fall migration with opportunities to observe a variety of resident and migratory bird species including warblers\, wading birds\, waterfowl\, and raptors. \nRegister here to connect with other young birders in Northeast Florida! \nPlease plan to have at least one adult joining each young birder or group of young birders who are signing up together. You will be asked to list all young birder(s) and adult(s) in your registration; you may relist the adult’s email if a young birder does not have an email or prefers not to share it. \nWhat to Bring: Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes to bird along the trails. Bring your binoculars if you have them\, water\, insect repellent\, sunscreen\, and snacks. THERE IS NO ENTRANCE FEE. \nWhere to Meet: Reddie Point Preserve main parking lot. \nAddress: 4499 Yachtsman Way\, Jacksonville\, FL 32277 \nQuestions? Contact David at david.doran@duvalaudubon.org or Will at misnerwill@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Bird Walk & Book Signing at Howell Park
DESCRIPTION:Co-leaders: Brook Byrnes & Sabrina Lehmann \nJoin us for a bird walk at Howell Park with Deborah Penrose\, author of Birding Through Deaf Eyes\, followed by a book signing at the picnic tables near the parking lot. \nHowell Park\, located between Seminole Road and East Coast Drive in Atlantic Beach\, FL\, is a passive park that has 2\,500 ft of nature trails\, freshwater streams and picnic areas. There are no restrooms at the park itself\, but public bathrooms are available at Atlantic Beach City Hall complex\, just across Seminole Road. \nIMPORTANT: Googling Howell Park will take you to the parking lot for the Atlantic Beach City Hall rather that into the park itself. To get to the park from Seminole Road\, turn onto Palm Avenue at 401 Seminole Road. Since Palm Avenue is one way\, if there are no parking spaces inside the park\, you will need to turn right onto Magnolia Street and return to Seminole Road to park at the Atlantic Beach City Hall complex. \nWe can expect to see American Redstarts\, Common Yellowthroats\, Yellow-throated Warblers\, Northern Parulas\, Black and White Warblers\, Ovenbirds\, Gray Catbirds\, Eastern Phoebes\, and if we’re lucky\, maybe a cool thrush. \nBe sure to wear comfortable shoes and a hat\, and don’t forget to bring water\, sunscreen\, bug spray and binoculars.
