Field Trip: Reddie Point Preserve (no fee)
Saturday, October 01, 2022, 08:00am - 11:00am

TROPICAL STORM IAN UPDATE: WHILE THE WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO IMPROVE, WE ARE NOT SURE WHETHER THE PARK WILL BE OPEN FOR OUR FIELD TRIP. PLEASE CHECK OUR MEETUP SITE FOR UPDATES.

PLEASE REGISTER ON OUR MEETUP SITE so we know how many to expect. Thank you!

Reddie Point is THE hot spot during migration. The Preserve consists of 102 acres with trails and a fishing pier on the St. Johns River.

This park is a must for any birder during any season, it has 1.5 miles of coastal beaches where we can do a sea watch and look for shore birds. The 447 acres of maritime hammock are a great place for migrant and wintering songbirds. A small lake in the middle of the park provides a rookery for wading birds.

We'll meet at the parking lot at 8:00am, fill out the sign in, and then move on to the shoreline and trails. We might see Black-crowned Night Heron; Wood Stork, Red-shouldered Hawk, woodpeckers, buntings and several different kinds of warblers. This is a great field trip for novice birders at the peak of migration.

Other than a porta-lou, there aren't any restroom facilities. Bring water, snacks and insect repellent.
