Presenter: Photographer Jack Zievis

Location: Southeast Regional Library, Room B, 10599 Deerwood Park Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32256

Join us for this excellent in-person presentation that will help you up your photography game and get better bird photos!

A love for nature is evident in Zievis’ photographic art. His feathered-friend photography encompasses work done in Maine, Florida and Texas, where migratory birds stop for a break. Zievis pursues images for a desired reaction. He says: “As a photographer, I have the opportunity to transport a viewer to a place inspiring awe, or to take him/her to a pleasant memory. Birds, favorite subjects of mine, often generate surprise, as busy lives deprive us the time to observe the beauty residing in our own backyard.”

While interest in photography surfaced in the time of film, retirement affords Zievis the opportunity to hone his skills in the digital age. Zievis’ Rule of Thumb for good presentation is interesting subject, perfect lighting, perfect composition, and an uncompromising background. When timing doesn’t afford the best conditions, software such as Photoshop allows us to compensate. Filters give us the ability to transform photos into a more artistic expression.

Zievis had a career in ship design, working in New York and Jacksonville. His job took him overseas and across the country. In the early 90s, opportunity knocked and he found himself a business owner in the marine aquarium industry. He designed, built and maintained aquariums in the Southeast. As a US Navy diver, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor and is a Vietnam Veteran.

His work has appeared in publications such as the Florida Times Union, Beaches Leader, Downeast Magazine, Intracoastal Kayaking Guide etc. Also at redsailphotography.com, Fineartamerica.com, Facebook and Instagram.

Meetings start with refreshments and networking at 6:30 pm and programs at 7:00 pm (unless otherwise noted). We will provide snacks and drinks; please feel free to BYOD (Bring Your Own Dinner) and enjoy it during the program. Please also bring your own cup to help cut down on plastic trash at this event. Thank you!
