Field Trip: Jekyll Island Banding Station
Sunday, October 06, 2019, 07:00am - 11:00am
Contact - Andrew Schumann (631-974-0703)

The Jekyll Island Banding Station is a non profit all-volunteer bird banding station operating on the south end of Jekyll Island since 1978. Dedicated licensed banders and bird enthusiasts band Neotropical passerines during fall migration for scientific study and education. Visitors will have excellent photo opportunities and will be able to see their mist netting operations.

We will meet at the corner of Macy Lane and St. Andrews Drive on the south end of the island at 7:00 am. If you come south from the roundabout near the entrance to the island, Macy Lane will be on your left just before St. Andrews Picnic Area. There is enough space for several cars to park by the woods along Macy Lane. There is a path through the trees and across a boardwalk, and there will be metal signs marking the pathway from the start to the banding station. Bring bug spray, water, your camera, and a head lamp if you have one. A lot of raptors and other birds migrate through, so we can bird and band at the same time!

For those who want to carpool, meet at 6 am at the Shell gas station at exit 380 off of I-95 at US-17. Contact leader Andrew Schumann (631-974-0703) in advance if you are interested in carpooling.
